September: Self-Improvement Month
As summer comes to a close, we prepare for back to school, fall, holidays and various other activities. Most don’t know September is self-improvement month. What exactly is self-improvement? We all know the meaning. But look deeper, you can make a difference in your life and someone else’s life too.
The definition of self-improvement is the improvement of one’s status, position, education, etc., by one’s efforts.
In my mind, this means that anything that makes you happy or improves you is what self-improvement is. You can go into depth to change yourself, your way of thinking, your lifestyle, etc., or you can scratch the surface and change a few things. Everyone’s self-improvement will be different since we all live such different lives.
Sitting down and deciding what you would like to change is the first step to improving yourself. Pick one thing to improve upon. If you need ideas, there are self-help books that you can rent from the library. YouTube videos are touching upon self-improvement, and you can hire a health coach. You decide what the best way is for you to improve your life.
- Set a goal
- Write it down. It could be in a journal on sticky notes, whatever works for you.
- Set a timeline to accomplish your goal
- Ensure there is a reward for achieving your goal
Keep in mind; some changes will be more like lifestyle changes than ending goals. They are things you will continue to do for the rest of your life to improve your quality of living.
Some ideas for self-improvement are as follows:
- Wake up earlier
- Get into an exercise routine
- Read more books to learn more
- Make healthier food choices
- Get out of your comfort zone
- Stay focused
- Meditate
- Make time to pray
- Be kind
- Let go of the past
No matter what you decide to improve on it is yours and yours alone. You need to take the first step and don’t give up. Good luck in your journey!
