I miss the days
where my world was filled
with bursts of color,
sparkling and bright.
What was once a cacophony of
life and joy
has been sucked dry
by a society full of expectations and boxes.
Trends must be followed,
personalities squashed to fit in
with those around us;
individuality missing.
I used to pick out my clothes,
choosing sequins, frills, and silly pajamas.
But my closet has filled with black and beige,
a collage of corporate hell.

I look in my mirror that now reflects
a girl who easily blends in.
I only see what I’m supposed to be,
a girl full of melancholy and monotony.
