An Open Letter of Love

To the young woman who’s going to do amazing things,
How can I express my pride in you? Nineteen years ago, I never imagined the baby I held would have such a profound impact on me. With each passing year, I have seen your creative spirit blossom as you found your voice, passion, and identity. You accept your flaws with humility, savor small moments of peace, and greet others thoughtfully. It’s no surprise that so many peers speak highly of you when we consider the person you are.
You found your passion in environmental creatures, studying invasive species and their effects. You joined diverse community programs, stayed curious, and were always eager to learn. That drive is rare and admirable.
You’ve become one of my biggest inspirations, pushing me to lead by example. You resist peer pressure, staying true to yourself-something I still struggle with as an adult. It’s heartwarming to see you thrive.
Spending time with you felt like having a little sister, always wanting to protect you and make you smile. Being cousins never lessened my support or the value of our memories.
One memory in particular that stands out to me is of when we played together as kids. When neither of us felt included with the other cousins, we came together and created our own fun. You were so happy feeling included rather than ignored. I was happy feeling special to someone rather than feeling like a background character. Those simple moments of playing with your toys allowed us to grow closer and served as a reminder that we would always have each other’s backs. It was moments like these that made us believe we could always rely on each other.
I’ve also noticed our shared approach to new experiences and beliefs about what matters most. We both have big hearts and sensitive souls, letting passion guide what we love.
We both strive for the best, sometimes chasing perfection. I see how you stress about grades, refusing anything less than an above-average grade. You quickly contact your professors if something seems off. I still do the same thing, even after college.
It’s not an issue you outgrow, but it shows your determination. One difference I admire is your hope for a better tomorrow. Instead of despairing, you take action and demonstrate conviction as you face challenges. Whatever the conflict, you overcome it and move forward, driven by your goals.
I admire your hope. Even after seeing the world’s flaws, you believe in a better tomorrow. Your optimism lifts others. You’re more than a younger cousin-you’re an inspiration, showing life isn’t hopeless. I’m grateful for your impact. It motivates me to move forward and face what lies ahead.
There is more to say, but let me end by telling you how deeply I adore and value our bond. You deserve happiness equal to what you give others. I’m incredibly proud of you, Jaci. Remember, follow your heart and stay true to yourself, nothing can hold you back. Our family will always be here—whenever support and guidance is needed, or a reminder of your strength and kindness. You are a treasure to all, kiddo. Now, show the world what you can do.
