Candy

I’m a sour patch kid.
First sour, then sweet,
dancing on taste buds
until I’m gone.

I can be innocent.
A slice of heaven
to make all your dreams
come true.

Or I can be cruel.
Your match made in hell,
a perfect storm wrapped
in a tantalizing package.

A temptress full of desire
beyond imagination.
A heartbreaker to leave
you cold and empty.

“It’s not you, it’s me”
they told me,
setting my course
toward destruction.

Good girl turned bad
in a lonely valley,
that made me who I am
to this day.

Because I’m a sour patch kid.
First sour, then sweet,
melting away,
then gone.
