Room 101
Wheelchairs cruising along dim hallways,
the heels of white-cloaked saints
clicking with each deliberate step,
carrying trays of food and medicine.
A wailing newborn cry echoes among tiles
born into a world of chaos,
sorrow, joy, and summer nights
within the spectrum of life.
A weary individual waits in a crowded room,
He hopes heaven will answer his prayers,
begging and pleading with God for one more day,
Another moment to spend with his wife.
A glowing angel enters the room,
carrying the newborn wrapped in pink,
hands her over to the newly-minted father,
with gentle, careful movements.
Joy flickers within his eyes,
until one look at the saint
changes his complexion as
tears streak down his face.
For his wife has joined the angels,
the white-cloaked saint gives her
condolences while the world
continues to turn.
