Thoughts To Flames

Flames

Speaking in earnest
I search for a truth
This world I reside
Seeking the proof

To validate life
Hard to imagine
Divisiveness fluent
The error of passion

My hearts skips a beat
My breath becomes shallow
With thoughts of my children
Engulfed in this shadow

What will become
Of the ground they will walk
The steps that they take
This violence of cause

I can only take solace
Comfort in terms
They’ll awake from the darkness
Be free of this world

Left now to wonder
Will there be change
Or will they be stricken
Thoughts to the flames
