It’s too tiring! It’s too demanding!

Why don’t we just take a break?

Why don’t we just sit a little longer?

The sun will keep shining for as long as we live –

So why hurry to make hay now when we can do it then?

Although the slothful don’t know when the night approaches.

The clouds of his pleasures soon gather,

to block the sun’s golden rays

He’s heard it said, “a little sleep, a little slumber –

And poverty will creep upon you like an armed man.”

So get to work, you lazy folk.

Put in a bit today, then a little tomorrow.

Work until your results echo –

the labour of your toiling years.

Beautiful said, and excellent rhyming, Ivor. Where do we land where there is peace and light?
