Like most young people, the internet has replaced TV for me. I am either streaming music or watching videos on the internet every day. One of my favorite YouTubers is a woman who calls herself emmymadeinjapan.

Recently, I was shown an act of kindness by a perfect stranger.  I wrote one of my favorite YouTubers and asked her if she would make a video for me. She did. The video was short and sweet and consisted of this wonderful woman trying to make a meal with the use of only one of her arms.

This is a very important detail. You see, I have cerebral palsy and  I have limited use of my left arm. Moving the individual digits on either of my hands and or foot is difficult.

emmymadeinjapan was nice enough to fill this whole video with only the use of one arm, putting her other arm into a T-shirt and then basically fixing a simple dinner. She decided to fix a meal of pasta, red tomato sauce, and a simple and healthy salad. She chose those foods because of me. I was raised on things like Spaghetti and macaroni and cheese. Now that I’m a grown-up, dishes made with pasta are some of my favorite feel-good foods.

Not only was the video created but, after it was uploaded and filmed, the content creator decided to make my comment a pin so that other people Could see how grateful I was for this kindness.

The other really awesome thing that happened from this video was that I got people talking. People who had issues that were similar to mine, or knew someone else who did, were able to get the information that was valuable to them.

If you don’t have a lot of independence in doing everyday tasks, you don’t know what it feels like. You really are blessed if you have the ability to do little things like tie your own shoes or fix yourself a meal. Things that are part of a daily routine for most people are not a daily routine for people with fine motor issues or a disability that affects their mobility.

Thank you so much for doing this and brightening the lives of not only me, but others who needed this kindness dispelled upon them. No matter what you’re going through, every day gets a little easier if you learn to smile.

Emmy has made smiling just a little bit easier for me. You brighten my day knowing that someone cares. I decided to say thank you and remember to pay it forward.

Thank You, Emmy, and God Bless.
