To you we owe

Our freedom

Gratitude

And praise

Small steps

Defiant stance

Made so we

Could belong

To you we owe

Our opportunities

Our voices

Our legacy

Persecuted for petty crimes

Inaudible cries

Noosed up

Whooped, sold off

You held on

Carried strong

So we could be born

And we can demand

Heads down

Muffled voices

Humbled spirits

Still rejoices

To you we owe

Small victories

And every

Single break

Today, we stand on

Your shoulders

We have a

Lot at stake.

Calpernia Charles

Sea breeze clears my mind as the waves washes the tension away. Belize my native land that breathes creativity and uniqueness with every ray of sunshine. Written words my way of standing up and speaking out.
