The Balloon

Every now and again the universe reminds you to do something special without being asked. A few weeks back my mom was at work, and we had one such experience. My mother has always loved children. She teaches special needs children.
My mother’s coworker told her that he had found a balloon in his yard. A little piece of paper with a boy’s birthday wishes and an address was attached to the balloon.
One of the best things about my mother is that she’s always eager to make another person’s day. Even as an adult she will occasionally surprise my sister and I with small gifts, or a kind word when you need it the most, or a funny story that makes our day a little bit brighter.
The note said that the little boy wanted ten teddy bears in a puppy. My mom told her co-worker that if he bought one teddy bear and then 9 of his friends bought a teddy bear and someone bought a stuffed puppy then this birthday wish would become reality.
My mom told me that story about the balloon, and I decided I wanted to take part. She bought a teddy bear, and I bought a stuffed chihuahua. We sent them to the address on the balloon. This is one of the best things I’ve done in a while. I love being able to make someone’s day. I love giving gifts and making people smile. I really hope the stuffed animals are much loved.
Now and again, the universe tells you to do something special for someone else without being given anything in return. I hope this article inspires someone else to do something altruistic. Always remember that it’s not about the reward or praise; it’s about doing something nice for someone when no one is watching you.
