One Fine Spring Day

Queen of one fine spring day,

So perfect was this one fine spring day
Incandescent rays and the warmth of the sun emote.
Blue cloudless sapphire heaven at Noonday
Filled up the air with Larks’ sweet dulcet notes.

Upon the scaffold, my metal surface gleamed
Flashing fiery sparks lit by gentle silver waves.
Crimson tears filled tiny crevices carved
With each swing of an axeman’s blade.

Silent witness, I was to each and every death.
Their blood pooled upon my anvil soul,
Imbued me with lost dreams, heartfelt pain
And last fleeted moments of wistful love.

I wept deep inside my cold, iron heart
Silent and unseen forever a witness of time
As England unfairly named prisoners of state
Condemned by Henry’s prevailing whims.

I saw her then, dark haired and pale
Dressed head to toe in Royal Blue
Head held high like the queen she was
Walked slow and regal to my side

Felt her warmth spread across my surface
Imagined her hands against its coolness
She laid her small head upon my incus
And whispered, “I have such a tiny neck”

The massive blade began its eerie descent
Cut off the queen’s crownless head
She laid face up within the woven basket
Dark unseeing eyes filled with unshed tears

I sigh, “At long last, you’re free”
