Have you ever thought about the adult the younger version of yourself imagined you would be? I thought I would live in a London flat with my husband and at least a few children. My life isn’t anything similar to what I thought when I was little. Honestly, I was sad about that for a while.

Disappointing My Younger Self

The younger me would be glad that we got two dogs. She would be upset that we aren’t doctors. Sorry to disappoint you, but I kept imagining cutting a vital organ due to a muscle spasm which would lead to a patient’s untimely death. One cool aspect of your career as an author is you learn from your different novels.

Recognizing A Patten

Something I used to do was I spent a week or more working on a story, and then when I was done, I shared the story with everyone I knew. Criticism is part of being an author, but I was excited to show people the story I created. However, when the adults in my life immediately told me how to fix my story, it would go into a drawer, and another story wouldn’t happen until the next year when I caught the urge to write again.

Rejection Will Happen

Rejection is a funny concept as an adult. It’s not possible to stop searching for a job because you got rejected by a few companies. You need money to keep living. No one will bail you out or reassure you that you never have to fill out an application again. Things may seem hopeless at times. A dismissal could leave you open for your dream career. Dreams change, so don’t let the fact that your life hasn’t turned out the way you planned when you were a child. You survived this far, and you never know what could happen.
