Money Isn’t Your Life

This week I learned an important lesson. Most companies will not care if you quit. I wasn’t under the impression they would, but I thought that startups and small companies would care a little. I’m sure some do care about the overall health of their employees. I love my internships because of the communities within each of them. 

I was worried if I quit I would be considered lazy. I haven’t gotten many employment opportunities, and I have had to quit two jobs. I had good reasons, but I felt sick to my stomach when I quit. I kept thinking to myself, “What if no one else hires me? I’ll be stuck in the same position I am now forever. I’ll be considered useless. ” Then I thought about it, and I realized that most people consider entertainment jobs useless. We survived this past year thanks to grocery store clerks, doctors, nurses, teachers, and restaurant workers. 

However, how did we cope with the boredom of lockdown? We turned to entertainment. People watched movies and shows, read books, or learned a new hobby. This past year has been a lesson in survival. Don’t spend time in a job that doesn’t offer you any sort of fulfillment. It’s okay to work a job to have money. Money makes the world go around. I know everyone says, “Money doesn’t buy happiness.” You could indeed be the richest person on earth, and still, be miserable. My argument is money buys security. The right amount of money can gain a person access to the best healthcare, quality of food, houses in a safe neighborhood, and the best education. 

Don’t ever let anyone shame you for doing whatever you need to feel safe. Money is its form of fulfillment. You can find a job that pays you enough to get by just remember to give yourself some personal time.

 My advice is if a job is not exactly what you imagined for yourself, keep working, but always be on the lookout for new opportunities. Money exists for you to be able to live not to be miserable to earn the next dollar. Another company will hire you. You are a person first, not just an employee. You have to live your life at the end of the day so do whatever is best for you.
