What ‘Coffee House Writers’ Means To Me
I would like to say thank you to all the wonderful people on the writing team known as the “Coffee House Writers”. I met the leader of our team about a year ago. What struck me immediately was her love of animals, which is something that the two of us have in common. From there, a friendship grew. I knew how strong and powerful my bond was with the team when I had a rather invasive procedure. Everyone gathered around me and gave me their support, prayers and well wishes. I felt better just knowing that somebody cared how I was doing.
Our team has seen its share of ups and downs. I love this team because we all come from very different backgrounds but that holds us together. Many of us have different political or religious ideologies, we all come from different backgrounds and different parts of the country. Our differences make us stronger because we can share ideas freely and openly. With some writing teams, I have explored, this is not the case.
I am grateful for this opportunity and I’m grateful for the support that I’m getting from some of the best friends I’ve ever had.
With the help of Coffee House Writers, I have been able to explore myself creatively. I also think it made me a better person, not just a writer, because I’ve learned how to express myself.
At this time last year, my self-esteem was low and my ability to use words to express my feelings out loud was not up to par, especially when you consider the fact that I was a college student.
As a writer, I wanted to challenge the traditional perceptions of which I have been raised. I grew up in a very traditional household. I was a strong-willed adult who wanted to explore, but I will admit, I had very little clue what I was doing most of the time.
My writing reflects my desire to be different and to shake-up traditional ideas of what is deemed normal. I did something I wanted to do for a long time last week, which I was unable to do before I came to this team. I am grateful for this opportunity and I’m grateful for the support that I’m getting from some of the best friends I’ve ever had.
Don’t be afraid to be yourself or speak your mind. Always remember that mistakes are chances to learn and you are who you are supposed to be. Love yourself, be strong and never give up your dreams.
Thank you Coffee House Writers for teaching me that there is a place for me in this world of writing.
